6. Bird’s Eye View; Duotone

A bird gliding out at dusk from a perch on the 12th story of Denver’s Grand Hyatt Hotel could see something like this, provided it were more concerned about dodging skyscrapers than about noting and dealing with the head of a likely victim on the sidewalk. In order to take quiet satisfaction in not having yelled, “Look out below!” one must, perforce, be looking ahead, not casting downward eye. And this imaginary bird is looking down, but not straight down as would be desirable for a truly bird’s eye view.

So what we have is a pastiche of buildings, a cityscape perhaps more stimulating in its discrete parts than as a whole. Indeed, I took this photograph for its parts: the bit of recreational rooftop hard by some old religion, the glop of undistinguished high rises, a snippet of striped streets.

Thus it is hard to complain when the whole business was deposited for duotone manipulation that nothing very enlightening happened. It seemed most merciful to let it remain quite close to grayscale and that is what I have done.
