Exploring color volume contrast by relatively simple filter application was not something for which I had a deliberate plan, but each step seemed to lead quite naturally to taking a look at a different approach.
Although the composition is not entirely respectful of rules, the contrasts between volume of light and dark and between straight lines and curve culminate in a graphic expression that encourages my eyes to both rest on and dart around in the image. The original palette is interesting for its subtle gradations, but to me it is too calm to be inspiring. Trying the infrared monochrome process yielded something even less involving. Sepia tones added a story of the aging and eventual decay even of metal: depressing! It was when I moved toward applying complementary colors of orange and blue that I began to feel some excitement.
This is an image to which I am likely to return to work with on its own terms, not as an ingredient of another piece, but as something that stands on its own. I like it very much.
