This striking tank with its graphic is the centerpiece of a relatively successful composition. The rule of thirds is generally observed in that the tank covers about two-thirds of the distance from both the left and bottom edge. It is, though, something of a stretch to say that its main color, a rusty orange, provides the “warm” in a cool-warm contrast. Whenever a hue begins to absorb much gray, it seems to me that its residence in the warm climates of the spectrum has to be questioned.
However, the blue of the sky and of the tank’s stripe is patently cool, even icy. It was the cyan that I tried to bring out in adjusting brightness and colors and in rendering clouds. The clouds filter is notoriously easy to misapply and here I did not take time to make a good job of it. Although the sky in the original document is hazy and lacks gradation, it would have been possible, with more effort, to obtain a more realistic result.
Using the color replacement adjustment would have been a good way of trying to warm up the tank’s color, as well.
